Sunday “THE MONTGRI NATURE RESERVE” We leave the villa on foot and within a few  minutes we are in the Montgri Nature Reserve, much looking forward to exploring  its green hills and wild, rugged coastline.   Via a craggy traverse, with  sweeping  views of the Bay of Roses to the north and the Bay of Pals to the south, we reach the “Roca Maura” peak gives the town of Estartit its “Gibralta” aspect.   We climb to the Cap de La Barra from where a rocky trail descends to the Calella Cove. We explore a section of the "Route of the Wind" on our return to the Villa.

Departing on foot from the villa we are soon back into the Montgri  Nature Reserve. We climb to Las Dunas, a ridge of high sand dunes stabilised by pine forest hundreds of years ago. From there we climb on the GR92 trail to the Mont Pla summit (311 metres) to enjoy a 360 degree panorama across the Emporda Plain to the Pyrenees along with the 2900 metre summit of the Canigou far away in France. We traverse the hillside and descend into a secluded valley to the Monastery of Santa Caterina.    We climb to the impressive Montgri Castle, a fantastic feat of medieval architecture ,and then descend down to the medieval town of Torroella de Montgri. From here we hike parallel with the Ter river on foot back to the villa.

Another location of unspoilt bays and coves is accessed from the  sleepy resort of Tamariu,  just half an hour’s drive from the villa.   Sometimes on the GR92 and on occasions detouring, using our local knowledge to find the most spectacular scenery, we reach the beautiful resorts of  Llafranc and Calella around lunch time. Our route tthen explores the rugged coast line of the Cap Roig nature reserve. We pass the Iberian remains at Castell . A 35 minute drive brings us back to the Villa.

Wednesday  “DAY OFF”. Enjoy a boat ride around the Medes Islands or take a bus to visit the old town of Girona or the Dali museum in Figueres.  Perhaps a walk or a bike ride, golf, diving, swimming, sailing, cayaking. The list is endless.  Or simply relax by the villa pool.  You’ve earned a rest.

A few minutes walk from the villa and once again we are in the Montgri  Nature Reserve. We follow the GR92 to the high ground above the cliffs that drop steeply down to the first marine nature reserve in Europe. We marvel at the view across to the Bay of Roses and to the  final ridge of the Pyrenees as it disappears  into the Mediterranean Sea.. our hike climbs steeply down to discover a series of remote coves and then joins the GR92 along the rugged cliffside coastline to the Montgri bay. We continue on the GR92 to the harbour at L'Escala.

FRIDAY: "The Medieval Triangle."
Our triangular walk stars at the impressive perched village of Gualta. From Gualta, we follow the GR92 trail to the sleapy attractive village of Palau Sator famouse for its fine restaurants. Perhhaps a coffee on the main square. We walk on to the imposing fortified village of Peratallada which on a number of occasions has been used as a film set. then we continue to the perched village of Pals to explore its old town.
