SUNDAY: Included airport transfer. Briefing at dinner...

MONDAY: From Les Houches we drive to Le Tour (1464m). Climbing to the Aiguillette des Possettes 2201 metres, we are rewarded with a stunning view of Mont Blanc, the Aiguille Verte, Tour glacier and Chamonix Valley. We descend to the Col de Possettes (1997 metres) Another climb brings us to to Les Bonhommes in Switzerland (2140 metres) where we enjoy sweeping views of the Swiss Alps and the Emosson Dam. We descend to Pointe du Van and climbing up and over the Balme Pass (2190 meters) reentering France. We descend to Le Tour via the Chalets de Charamillon and are transported back to the Chalet. (7 hours walking time including breaks and lunch etc. 900 metres up and 900 metres down)

TUESDAY: We drive through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Italy for a chance to soak up some Italian atmosphere! From Arnouva (1750 metres) we take the jeep track to the Elena refuge (2000 metres) and then on to the spectacular Grand Col de Ferret forming the Italian Swiss border. A quick descent brings us back to the Elena refuge where we access the stunning balcony walk bringing us accross and up to the Bonatti refuge. (2000 metres). The views are among the finest on the tour. Mont Blanc itself, the towering rocky peak of Grandes Jorasses and the glaciers that crowd the northern flank of Val Ferret are there to be admired.

WEDNESDAY: We drive to Col des Montets and then climb to the beautiful Lac Blanc, the highest point of the week (2351m), a spectacular setting with fine views. Normally we will be able to see Ibex. We then descend and continue to La Flegere, from where we take a téléférique back down to the valley or time permitting we continue on the Grand Balcon Sud to Plan Praz (2000m) and and descend by ski lift to the centre of Chamonix.
If the Flegere lift is closed, we will proceed as normal to the beautiful White Lake (Lac Blanc). Then we will loop round to the Grand Balcon Sud and descend on a different route to the starting point. This will make a total climb of 950m and descent of approximately 950m but the diversion will actually enhance the walk and make the extra effort well worthwhile. We only anticipate this happening on the final departure of the season

THURSDAY: Free day for optional walks or sightseeing. There are many good walks directly from the chalet - the route of the 'Tour du Pays du Mont Blanc' passes right through the garden of the chalet. Your leader will be able to advise of possible routes. Or you may choose to visit the busy Alpine resort of Chamonix, which is only 20 minutes away by bus or train and has numerous bars, restaurants and cafés. There are several téléférique excursions you can make from Chamonix, of which the most spectacular is the ascent to the Aiguille du Midi (3842 metres), which has fantastic views of Mont Blanc and surrounding peaks. It should also be possible to take the mountain train up to Montenvers for close up views of the glacier, Mer de Glace. For those seeking some adrenaline, there is tandem paragliding, canyoning and rafting, plus many more supervised adventure sports.

FRIDAY: Les Contamines - Truc Plateaux - Col de Tricot - Les Houches
A short drive (35 minutes) will bring us to Les Contamines (1250 metres). We climb on the Tour of Mont Blanc / GR5 trail to the Truc plateaux. This beautiful region is often featured on our snowshoe holidays. Then we descend to the Miage Valley (1560m)dominated by the mighty Dome de Miage mountain. Perhaps a coffee at the refuge before climbing 500 metres to cross the Col de Tricot where we can admire a stunning panorama. We cross the suspension bridge at the tongue of the Bionnassay glacier and marvel at the glacier's great wall of ice towering above us. We descend via the Col de Voza to the Chalet Savoy.

SATURDAY: This morning we take the téléférique up to Plan Praz (1999 metres), the mid station on the way to Brevent) and then walk up to Brevent (2525 metres) for panoramic views across to the Mont Blanc massif and down to the Chamonix valley passing by the Bellachat refuge and statue of Jesus. We descend a total of 1400 metres

SUNDAY: Included transfer back to the airport.
