MONDAY:
We drive along the Chamonix Valley to Le Tour. We take a gondola and chairlift ride up to the Col de Balme 2200 metres where we can enjoy spectacular views of the Chamonix Valley and Mont Blanc as we traverse towards the Tour Glacier. A steep climb partly on the lateral morain of the glacier brings us to the Alber Premier refuge 2700 metres named after the Belgian King who loved to climb in the Chamonix Valley. We can enjoy a well deserved drink in the refuge while we look across the Tour Glacier to the dramatic Aiguille du Chardonnet. Then it's off to Argentiere riding the Lognan cable car to 1978 metres from where we climb 170 metres to a superb look out point of the Argentiere Glacier. Time permitting we'll ride the Grands Montets cable car to 3296 metres to view the Pendant, Lognan and Rognons glaciers.
TUESDAY: From the Brevent middle station 2000 metres we climb the Lac Cornu 2352 metres situated in rugged terrain high in the Aiguille Rouge nature reserve. We carefully cross rocky terrain strewn with bolders to the remote Lac Noir and after crossing the Col du Fouet we take an impressive traverse via the Index to the Lac Blanc 2340 metres, the jewel of the Mont Blanc region's lakes. We descend to Flegere 1900 metres and take the cable car back down to the Chamonix Valley.

WEDNESDAY: After a short walk from the chalet we climb on the Bellevue cable car to 1801 meters. 80 metres lower we approach the tongue of the Bionnassay Glacier. We then flank the glacier on a tricky hike to the Nid d'Aigle (translated Eagle's Nest) which at 2372 metres is the highest railway station in France and allows fabulous views of the Bionnassay Glacier. We descend by the Tramway du Mont Blanc train back to the Bellevue cable car.

THURSDAY:
On your free day why not ride the Aiguille du Midi, the highest cable car in Europe, which summits at 3842 meters. Then descend to the middle station and set off on the legendry "Balcon Nord" on a self guided walk reaching the formidable look out point over the Mer de Glace named after the famous British geologist Forbes. A cable car descent will take you down to the glacier grotto and you can actually walk inside the glacier. The Montenvers train will bring you back down to Chamonix.

FRIDAY:
From the top station of the relaxing Bossons chairlift 1349 metres we join the historic route taken by Balmat and Paccard on the first ever ascent of Mont Blanc climb towards the Taconnaz and then the Bossons glaciers. Just above 2000 metres altitude we can virtually reach out and touch the Bossons glacier with its impressive crevasses and seracs. At the Jonction, 2589 metres, we see the split in the Bossons and Taconnaz Gacier and the site where Balmat and Paccard made their bivouac on the first ever summit of Mont Blanc in 1786. We return on the direct route to the chairlift enjoying coffee and a relaxing study of the glacier on the terrace of the Chalet du Glacier.

SATURDAY:
A 1 1/4 hours drive brings us to in our opinion the most beautiful town in France, Annecy, often called the Venice of the Alps. We park in the forest above the town and climb to the steep ridge dominating the northern section of the lake. Exploration of Mont Veyrier and Mont Byron provides panoramic view points of the lake. After lunch and a wander in the old town of Annecy we drive along the lake for another climb to view the mouth of the lake from Cret du Bourg above Duingt. We drive home via the spectacular Arly Gorge passing the picturesque resort of Megeve.

SUNDAY Return transfer to Geneva Airport.

“ Wonderful week’s hospitality. There are other ways of walking in the Alps but nothing quite like your blend of comfort, humor and expertise.”
